Update, new work and adventures at a swapmeet

So again I say that I need to update this more and again I don’t do it. Been busy but now I am slowed down for the end of the year which is kind of nice. Going away here soon on a trip to Vegas and hopefully it will be just pure fun but that is another story. I have been shooting lots of weddings and some misc commercial work but not as much as I would like. So much going on and so much going to look forward to.

After much talking with Alan Mura(www.facebook.com/Alan.Mura.Photography), he has slowly convinced me to move towards shooting fashion and conceptual portraiture. I never really thought I would get back into this but I guess I am haha. Expect to see more of the latter two though the end of the year.

To start it I finally shot a model that I have worked with before . I have not seen in over a year but she is back. This is my first adventure into shooting in a while not so it did feel good to finally shoot again. Hopefully we can set something up here in the next few weeks again to make it truly awesome.

And just for the blogs viewing pleasure to the whole 10 people that will read this, another one of Amy that I just recently finished.

But anyways, I know that half of the people that will be reading this blog are excited to what new things I got. I recently went with a friend to a photography swap meet hosted by a shop and a school for all that wished to attend. While sifting though the piles of junk in the $3 area and got two 78-by-78″ light panel frames with new translucent white and black/ silver panels for $6 total. I also got one gem that I am still excited about. Something that most people over looked(infact 6 people picked it up and put it back down not knowing what it was).

If you can guess you know your lighting modifiers well my friend. It is an Ellipsoidal spot light. This one from Elinchrom happens to be around $500 retail and is not even made anymore. I am willing to bet that most people don’t know what this does. It is used to focus a gobo onto a surface.  Such as example below. The gobo is inserted into a holder and you move the focusing element back and forth to focus onto the surface that you wish. In this case a wall. The light was about 8′ away and created a hard edged shape that was around 42″ in diameter.

This happens to be one of the most useful and specialized tools for modifying light that exists. I love this light and it creates an amazing look. I have used the tungsten version and finally I can get one that does not cook what I am shooting and is strobe. I have big plans for this beast here in the next month.

So until next time, cya.
